Project description
On a heavily-wooded lot on Calabogie Lake sits this Craftsman-styled cottage designed by Jim Bell Architectural Design Inc. The natural stone and wood accents blend seamlessly with the traditional-style homes and lush greenery surrounding this home, while the clean lines and linear design reflect the architectural style of the homeowners. Dark wood emphasizes the bold roof lines, light-coloured stone adds warmth to the façade, and the most outstanding feature, floor-to-ceiling windows that enclose the living/dining room creates character. All the elements of the design – the mix of exterior materials (stone, wood), the rows of windows on the rear of the home, and the preservation of significant mature trees – perfectly integrate the cottage with its surroundings.
Jim Bell designed the 4,200 sq ft. custom home with many unique features which focused on the clients’ ultimate goal of creating a family-centric retirement home. The lakeside facade, with an abundance of windows, taps into every aspect of waterfront living and takes advantage of the gorgeous view in every room. A variety of natural materials create an interesting and inviting exterior with the textures of stone, decorative timbers, wooden shakes and board and batten.
The outside is reflected in the stone and wood interior finishes of the custom home. The great room designed with family in mind is striking with a full-height stone fireplace that soars through the craftsman-style wood trusses. The three-story, seven-bedroom home with lower level walkout from the master suite includes a family dining area, walk-in pantry, storage room, and billiards room/recreation room with a built-in bar. Technology has been integrated into a unique zoned heating system – the main thermostat unit monitors sensors throughout for ultimate control from zone to zone. Home monitoring cameras and thermostats are incorporated into the security system.
Design is all about everything coming together – the clients, their vision, the designer, the countless details, and a spectacular lot — Bluff Point was built on all of these.
