Stage: Design Development
Project description
Our client came to us with a great home concept and a modest budget. She had some basic drawings that needed a few tweaks to create a plan that better suits her needs and improves flow and function. We designed a more coherent exterior look with counter-sloping simple roof lines to improve the styling and simplify the construction. The square footage was increased by 15% to improve interior function and flow for our client’s lifestyle.
The modest one-bedroom bungalow includes everything our client needs in a compact space of about 960 sq ft. Everything is conveniently located on one level. The heart of the home is a bright open-concept great room and kitchen, with floor-to-ceiling windows and access to the wrap patio. A full bathroom, den, and laundry closet complete the interior layout. Closet space is available at the front entry and in the bedroom. Accessible from the exterior, the storage/mechanical room is just off the covered front porch. The lower-level crawl space is for access to mechanical systems only and is not part of the living space.
The exterior is finished with maintenance-free charcoal board and batten and horizontal cedar-look siding. The contemporary styling is completed with black aluminum frame windows.
