How do we help our clients choose their exterior colours? It’s a big decision—and one that can have a significant impact on the overall character of a home.
For this latest project, our clients asked us to design a major renovation and addition to their waterfront home, including new exterior finishes, as well as a completely new garage with a loft and deck.
Located on a beautiful peninsula in North Frontenac, the property has stunning waterfront views and a unique setting. As part of the design process, our clients wanted to explore several options for the exterior colour and finishes of both the home and garage.
To help them visualize the possibilities, we prepared three colour design renderings, each illustrating a different combination of colour and exterior detailing. Seeing the options presented on the actual home allowed our clients to compare the designs and make a confident decision.
In the end, they selected a warm, earthy gray-beige exterior colour, chose to retain their existing cedar shakes, and opted for a steel shingle roof—an understated combination that complements the natural surroundings beautifully.
Waterfront Home Renovation + Addition
A key priority for the renovation was creating more functional and comfortable spaces while maintaining the character and connection to the waterfront.
The expanded main bedroom now makes room for a generous his-and-her walk-in closet and a new ensuite, including improved shower accessibility.
The main floor will also feature:
• A reconfigured kitchen designed to improve function and flow
• Ample laundry-room storage to help keep everyday essentials organized
• A larger walk-in closet for guests, with convenient storage for boating equipment and life jackets
• A new washroom and entry closet off the rear patio, including cleverly concealed towel storage that can be accessed from either the bathroom or entry closet—perfect for guests heading outside for waterfront activities
On the second level, the addition creates space for two quiet home offices, along with a dedicated office supply closet.
New Garage + Loft
The new three-bay garage is designed around both practical storage needs and the way our clients enjoy their property.
A large centre bay provides enough space to accommodate their travel trailer, while additional storage and a dedicated workshop area provide room for tools, equipment, and other recreational essentials.
Above the garage, the second-storey loft adds flexible space for a games room and exercise area, along with a powder room.
Large windows bring in an abundance of natural light and take advantage of the beautiful waterfront views. An expansive second-floor exterior balcony extends the living space outdoors and includes convenient stair access directly to and from the waterfront.
From the exterior colour selections to the smallest storage details, this project is all about creating a home that works beautifully for our clients’ lifestyle while responding thoughtfully to its spectacular waterfront setting.
